My Story
Before we dive into the tips and tools for landing your first remote job, I want to take a moment to share my story with you — the full, honest version. Because the journey to where I am today wasn't quick, easy, or expected... but it was so worth it. 💛
To be honest, working from home was never a dream of mine. For the longest time, I always imagined myself earning a degree and climbing the corporate ladder 📈 — the classic "success" story. That was the plan… until I got married.
Just a few months into our newlywed life, something in me shifted. I started to feel a deep, unshakable desire — a calling, really — that when the time came, I wanted to become a mom… and not just any mom. I wanted to be present. I wanted to raise my kids myself, be there for every moment, and create a home where peace and love lived.
Let me give you some context: we live in Namibia, a country with a high unemployment rate. And here I was — a young woman, only two months into marriage — telling my husband I wanted to quit my marketing degree to pursue a remote career… all so I could stay home with children I didn't even have yet 😂.
"May the favour of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us — yes, establish the work of our hands." — Psalm 90:17
My husband supported me 100%. He believed in me, encouraged me, and continues to carry our little family through every high and low. ❤️
But let me be real with you: it was hard. Like, really hard. 😅 We got married in December 2020. I only landed my first remote position in December 2021. That was a full year of learning new skills, applying for 10+ jobs a day, rejection after rejection, questioning if I made the right decision, and trusting God even when nothing seemed to work out.
And then… one day, it happened 🌟. December 2021. Our son Elijah was just 5 months old. I got an email — a company was hiring for a Social Media Agent. The client was based in New York, selling beauty products 💄✨. It felt tailor-made for me!
"We didn't even have WiFi at home. I was applying for a remote job… without internet! 😂 That's called faith, my friend."
I packed up Elijah, went to my husband's office, left the baby with him while I sat for the interview — and got hired on the spot. That job was a blessing — flexible hours, foreign currency 💵 — but freelance. For our family goals, we needed something more stable.
Fast forward — 5 months pregnant with our daughter 💕 — my father-in-law sent me a job listing. Way too fancy for someone like me, I thought. But my husband kept encouraging me to apply. I did, half-heartedly. They asked me to do a German language assessment. The next week, I received an official job offer — permanent employment.
I signed the contract, went through six-month probation, and today I can proudly say: I'm a permanent employee — working remotely, from home, in Namibia 🏡💻.
✨ If you're reading this wondering if it's really possible… yes, it is. It won't be easy. But it will be worth it. And I'll be here to guide you. 💛

Chapter Four
Landing a remote job is not about luck — it's about consistency.
Don't quit. Rejection is good — it means you are moving. The person who applies most, wins. Treat it like a job in itself.
YouTube is free. Google is free. Pick ONE skill and go deep. Coursera, HubSpot Academy, and Google Career Certificates are completely free.
Your resume should be ready to send within 5 minutes. Lead with impact — what you achieved, not just what you did.
Before any interview, know the company's product and mission. Research the industry you want to break into. This separates you instantly.
If you haven't heard back in a week, send a polite follow-up email. Most candidates never do this. It shows professionalism and it works.
Prayer is powerful. He will help you navigate, discern, and keep your strength up. This is what kept me going through a full year of rejections.
"It took me a full year and hundreds of applications. Your breakthrough is coming."
